The History of SpecialCars KOLIVAS
The journey began in 1969, when the founder of the business, having completed his studies as a mechanical engineer at the “Yparchos” Technical School, established a bodywork manufacturing plant. The initial activity focused on the construction of refrigerated compartments for trucks and three-axle vehicles, with the company also developing export activity to European countries.
The constant search for new solutions and the need for specialized constructions led, in 1992, to the development of the first hearses. At that time, construction in Greece was carried out mainly with sheet metal. Although it was the established choice, it presented significant disadvantages, such as increased weight, cracking at the joints, and problems of oxidation and rust.
Following developments internationally, where hearses made of polyester materials had already begun to be developed, a systematic process of research and technological development began. Participation in specialized seminars and international exhibitions, as well as cooperation and the exchange of know-how with specialists, including chemists and mechanical engineers, led to the adoption of polyester as the basic material for the new constructions.
In 2000, SpecialCars KOLIVAS was founded, with the aim of developing and manufacturing specialized, high-specification hearses. At the same time, the company’s know-how was reinforced through the acquisition of additional specializations in bodywork, painting, and panel beating, creating a complete technical foundation for the production of its constructions.
A significant milestone was the investment in modern equipment and the development of specialized molds. Molds made of fire-resistant polyester were created, while, upon special order, carbon fiber constructions were also developed. This know-how was applied to different versions of the Mercedes-Benz C180, E210, E211, and E212 models, with a total of two to three different designs per model.
The transition from sheet metal to polyester and, where required, to carbon fiber, offered significant advantages. The reduction in overall weight contributes to improved road behavior and lower fuel consumption, while the absence of traditional joints and large filler surfaces significantly limits the likelihood of paint cracking. At the same time, the availability of ready-made molds allows for a significant reduction in construction and delivery time.
SpecialCars KOLIVAS has developed a range of special technical solutions that complement its constructions, such as:
- Hydraulic drawer with hydraulic assistance and remote control.
- Side triplex glass with special construction to prevent fogging.
- A special ventilation system for the interior space.
- Special construction solutions with emphasis on driver safety in the event of a collision.
- Full availability of spare parts for the constructions, with the corresponding codes, at the company’s facilities.
After the death of the founder in 2024, SpecialCars KOLIVAS continues its course, maintaining as its main asset the know-how and experience created through decades of work and continuous development. Since 2012, ownership of the business has been held by Sarantia Koliva, who continues the company’s activity with the aim of maintaining quality, further developing its constructions, and responding to the modern needs of the market.
Today, SpecialCars KOLIVAS continues to invest in specialization, technology, and quality, with the prospect of further expanding its presence in the Greek market and developing its export activity.
The company’s philosophy remains constant: know-how, innovation, quality of construction, and an immediate response to the needs of each client.
